Analysis of Multicast-Based Object Replication Strategies in Distributed Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper presents an analysis of three object replication strategies based on reliable multicast protocols. A multi-class queueing model is used for obtaining performance characteristics of each strategy. The strategies are compared for a wide set of parameters showing the best strategy suitable for a given situation: the parallel update strategy has good performance for medium and high load; the invalidation strategy is interesting for low load conditions and for the low read/write ratio.

Adaptive Distributed Manufacturing Control
Future manufacturing environments will be flexible and highly automated with control systems built as networks of computers. These computers will be expected to be adaptable, reconfigurable and fault-tolerant, operating autonomously and yet cooperating to perform the manufacturing task. This MICRO project has focused on the infrastructure required for building distributed manufacturing control ...
متن کاملFault-Tolerance by Replication in Distributed Systems
The paper is a tutorial on fault-tolerance by replication in distributed systems. We start by de ning linearizability as the correctness criterion for replicated services (or objects), and present the two main classes of replication techniques: primary-backup replication and active replication. We introduce group communication as the infrastructure providing the adequate multicast primitives to...
متن کاملMulticast Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks: A Distributed Reinforcement Learning Approach
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are consist of independent distributed sensors with storing, processing, sensing and communication capabilities to monitor physical or environmental conditions. There are number of challenges in WSNs because of limitation of battery power, communications, computation and storage space. In the recent years, computational intelligence approaches such as evolutionar...
متن کاملReplication for a Distributed Multimedia System
Replicating data and services at multiple networked computers increases the service availability of distributed systems. This paper presents the design and implementation architecture of a replication mechanism for a distributed multimedia system medianode which is currently developed as an infrastructure to share multimedia-enhanced teaching materials among lecture groups. With the replica-tio...
متن کاملAdding Group Communication and Fault-Tolerance to CORBA
Groupware and fault-tolerant distributed systems stimulate the need for structuring activities around objectgroups and reliablemulticast communication. The objectgroup abstraction permits to treat a collection of networkobjects as if they were a single object; clients can invoke operations on object-groups without needing to know the exact membership of the group. Object-groups mainly serve to ...
